This years parade will begin promptly at 11:00AM, on July 4th, 2024, rain or shine. Scott County Emergency Management will make a determination if storms are in the area.
Line up will be on College Street and will be considered a One-Way street on the 4th at 9:20. All parade participants will be asked to enter College Street from Broadway, heading east. Parade will begin on Military Street.
Participants who want to be judged for an award, must be in line and ready to go no later than 10:00AM to give judges time to view all entries. Portable toilets will be located on or near College Street on parade day.
All parade entry forms should be returned by June 25th. All entries will be lined up in the order they arrive on parade day.
All parade entries will receive an order number as they arrive on parade day. Order number must be displayed on the entry where it is visible from the right side of street. (Preferably on the right front/windshield.) One contact person per group should be responsible for notifying other members of their group of any changes or instructions. For car clubs, make and model list of each vehicle entered would be appreciated prior to the start of the parade.
Entries will be announced on Main Street with descriptions listed on application.
Judging
All entries can begin lining up on East College Street Staging location starting at 9:30 A.M. on parade day, for line-up and judging. Entries not ready to be judged may be noted by the Judges and may or may not be judged, time being a factor. To be judged, a parade entry must be 80% representational of the parade theme, “Great American Traditions.”
All entries must be able to travel the entire parade route and may not, in any case, cause slowing or otherwise delay the parade movement.
Towing Vehicles should be decorated. Bonus points (5) will be awarded for decorated tow vehicle or decorated banner for walking groups. There will be First, Second and Third place awards. Winners will receive a ribbon to be displayed on their entry during the parade.
There will be 2-3 judges and judging will occur prior to the start of the parade. Judging will be based on four areas of emphasis:
1. Overall Appearance (25 Points Max)
2. Depiction of Parade Theme (25 Points Max)
3. Originality (25 Points Max)
4. Utilization of Patriotic materials (25 Points Max)
Each judge will award entries up to 25 points for each of the four areas of emphasis in the judging criteria. The highest score possible for any entry will be 300 points, or 100 points from each judge, plus 5 bonus points for tow vehicle decoration. (At least one person must remain with entry at all times to answer questions from the judges.)
Judges will make their decisions and award prize ribbons, prior to parade start. All decisions by the judges are final. The entry competition will be held rain or shine. Please share all respective information with all participants (and parents, where necessary). It is strongly suggested that groups use carpools to help alleviate traffic congestion.
* No parking in staging area.
